our mission

Whimsical Joy of Being a Child

Our goal at the Clackamas Day School can best be described by our logo. Overall, our mission is to capture the whimsical joy of being a child! The children represent sports, the arts, and the arts of play. Each child is adorned with a large heart, symbolizing the gateway in which love travels back and forth. The star symbol was incorporated to show how every child is a star. The physics symbol represents the math and science portion of their experience with us. The swirl is the Celtic symbol for “eternal youth”. The field of stars behind the children represents their bright future!

We believe that children learn and develop at different levels and are inspired in different ways. We stress individual goals and provide an opportunity for children to learn from one another while feeling that their views are respected. They grow in an environment that is loving and secure, where they are able to build close bonds with their peers and their care givers. We strive for an environment where families are honored and parents are vital to building our community relationships.

We build children’s problem-solving and reactive thinking skills through staff and child directed activities in our daily agenda.

We offer full time and part time care for ages 6 weeks to 18 months.

We offer full time and part time care for 18 months to 3 years.

Infants

Clackamas Day School offers full time and part time care. We believe that even the smallest children are strong, capable and unique; that the relationships they have are of primary importance in their lives.

Our younger children enjoy predictable routines: including meals, diapering, resting time, outside time and individual time.

Each day, our caregivers work together, to stimulate the children in their care with sensory activities, language play, art and learning opportunities. Our classroom environments have been carefully created to offer each child a maximum amount of independence, freedom of movement and safety.

Preschool

Our preschool program 3-5 years is based on a belief that children are unique individuals; therefore each child grows and develops at their own pace.

Using creative curriculum practices our preschool teachers expand the children’s opportunities for learning and development in all areas: physical, emotional, social, and cognitive. A classroom day involves a mix of large and small group activities, indoor and outdoor play, along with teacher and child directed interactions.

In our mixed age group classes, we increase difficultly, complexity and challenge level as children develop their skills and understanding

In addition to reading, writing, and math programs we also have science and creative expression through art and dramatic play. Monthly field trips to the local library are planned in addition to other field trips which will enhance curricular projects.

School Age

For school age children at Clackamas Day School, we offer a flexible program. We believe children need a chance to play after a long day at elementary school. Each day the students choose activities and games to play in small groups. Art projects, reading, dramatic play and a creative center are options for afternoon activities. A homework time is offered for children to complete their work before arriving home to enable more family time.

Before and after school programs are available Monday to Friday

We offer a summer camp program, June-August when children are out of school. We believe summer is the time to explore, play and build friendships. We try to provide a fun-filled memorable summer experience and hope our children will have wonderful memories from the days they have spent with us.

Planned activities include daily field trips to local parks. Other venues we might go to include: OMSI, Oregon Zoo, Bowling, Skating, and summer theatre productions.
